u3a Summer Solstice Walk

Thursday, 20th June 2024

The group including the people who met the walkers ta the Stone Jetty.

Thirteen members of various walking groups set off from the Millennium bridge, Lancaster, on a beautiful sunny evening to walk the 3.5 miles to Morecambe. Organised by the Nordic walking group to tie in with the 35 year celebrations the event was open to all members of u3a.

At the stone jetty we were joined by more u3a members and were treated to a glorious sunset. Just before the sun dipped below the horizon the full moon appeared directly opposite - a full moon happening within a day of the solstice is quite a rare event, only about once every 19-20 years.

As is customary on these occasions the event was celebrated with a drink, some of the more stylish members of the Nordic Walkers even carried bottles of fizz in place of the usual bottles of water.

Fabulous surroundings and great company, this event may well become a tradition!
