Music groups from the Lancaster and Morecambe u3a gave their latest major concert to members and guests in the splendid Methodist Church in Scotforth.

First to entertain was the Recorders Group, with instruments ranging in size and sound from descant, treble, tenor to base. They rang the changes from last years’ Tudor Court music to more modern 20th and 21st century tunes culminating with an American Folksong Medley.
Next up was the popular u3a Ukulele Group, singing as they played, who soon had the full house joining in to 1960s favourites from the likes of Guy Mitchell, Tommy Steele and the Monkees. In between tunes, which had first been heard by many of the audience in their heyday, anecdotes and facts about the original acts were told

The Acoustic Music Group, an eclectic mix of instruments and vocalists with solos and combos, changed the mood to one of quiet reminiscence, with nostalgic songs and guitar accompaniment. But as well as invoking nostalgia, a keyboard player of the talented group also sang her humorous, self-composed take on so-called old age, suitably titled Never too Old.
The great appreciation of the audience was matched by the evident pleasure and enjoyment of the players and singers themselves, showing how belonging to one of the over ninety interest groups of the Lancaster and Morecambe u3a can have enormous physical and mental benefit.
