Blackpool Tower Ballroom Afternoon Tea Trip

We had a wonderful trip to Blackpool Tower Ballroom where we enjoyed afternoon tea as well as dancing on the world famous dance floor.

... and then were greeted with a fabulous scene of Victorian splendour - and the floor really is a springy as we had been told making taking photographs quite a challenge.

Tables had been reserved for us; couples were eager to get on the dance floor; even the beginners who had been taking advantage of the extra sessions provided by the Tea Dance Group. Those who didn’t want to dance, sat back and enjoyed the spectacle. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful providing whatever we asked for.

We were treated to a demonstration of a Paso Doble a by a gentleman who is nearly 100 years old, proving that dancing is definitely good for you.

It also brought back very happy memories for two members who said: "We really enjoyed revisiting the ballroom as it brought back memories of our courting days. We have been married 60 years."

At times, two of the famous organs were both being played, one of them by Chris Hopkins, and when Sue asked if they could play the Sweetheart Waltz, she was introduced to Raymond Addicott who created the dance.

It was an excellent day out, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and huge thanks must go to Ann for organising it. It has really inspired us to "keep dancing".

We are now enthusiastically planning our next dancefest though it won’t be on such a famous dance floor. There are a couple of videos of our members dancing on on our Facebook page. L&M u3a Facebook Page
