Three ladies in the garden examining a shield bug which was found on the leaves.

Entomology is the study of insects and our group will be looking at the identification, habitats and life cycles of local insect species. The sessions will start with a 30-40 minute presentation from a member of the group followed by wider discussion informed by preparatory reading.

Insects, especially habitat specialists, are declining rapidly in both abundance and distribution and are more than worthy of better understanding.

Everyone is welcome, no prior knowledge is necessary but remember that this is a contributory group so please be prepared to do some homework!

Without insects we wouldn't be here; they're fascinating creatures with an incredibly diverse range of form, purpose, habitat and lifestyle. They're a wildlife group that performs so many necessary functions and yet they're often dismissed as 'creepy-crawlies' and our first thought is often "how do we get rid of...?"

For more details and to join the group, contact the Groups Coordinator.
