A group of members visiting Carnforth Station for the Brief Encounter Experience.

Are you new(ish) to the area and would like to learn more about it? Have you lived round here for many years and are prepared to share your memories? Would you like to learn about different aspects of Lancaster’s history? It’s role in the slave trade? The Gillows family? Happy Mount Park and Mr. Blobby? Visit some local places of interest?

All members take it in turns to tell the group about an aspect of the local history of Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding area. Talks can take any form you want such as powerpoint presentations or round table discussions and members are encouraged to organise trips to local venues such as the castle or the museum - or even further afield.

Meetings are held in Lancaster Library which has a convenient local history section unless we visiting to a local place of historic interest. We have been to the Brief Encounter Experience at Carnforth and enjoyed a backstage tour of the Lancaster Grand. We have also had a talk from a u3a member who lived on Sunderland Point.

The library is wheelchair accessible from the front and rear; automatic door openers. Blue badge parking spaces outside and along New Street. Park and Ride stop on China Street. Bus station nearby.

Listening to the guide.
