Nordic Walking is a total body exercise that is easy on the joints and suitable for all ages and fitness levels.

It is performed with specially designed walking poles which are similar to ski poles. Nordic Walking involves applying force to the poles with each stride, this propels you forward as you walk.

When used correctly, the poles take the weight off the knees and lower body joints – this makes you feel lighter on your feet and make the walking action more aerobic challenging.

Nordic Walking is accessible to anybody who has a reasonable level of fitness. You should be able to walk between 5-6 miles in each session.

The Nordic Walking group has been established for five years and there is a wealth of experience and expertise within the group. You will be given help to get started and develop good technique.

There are spare Nordic poles which you may borrow if you want to ‘try it out’. There is no need to purchase equipment until you are sure you wish to become a member of the group.

Having a rest with a hill in the background on the way to Bleasdale Tower.

There is a Lancaster and Morecambe Nordic Walking Facebook page which we would encourage you to join.  As this is a private group, it can only be accessed with permission from one of the administrators. Please contact: Nordic Walking Coordinator for further information.
