Lancaster & Morecambe

Autumn Concert 2026

A full house, despite extreme traffic gridlock in Lancaster, greeted the first of the four groups playing. The recorders were introduced by leader Julie with a quick run through of the rage of instruments being used, from descant to base. Their programme ranged from Thomas Tallis, through folk songs, a medley of nursery rhymes and for the finale an arrangement of recorders sounding like an organ, a wonderful, unusual sound.

Next came a new group, Early Music, also conducted by Julie, which whilst not having the authentic early music instruments, nevertheless created the Baroque music of Pachelbel (not the cannon, but a piece probably new to most members) and Corelli’s complex Sonata in Four Sections.

Also new, the Singing for Pleasure Group performed, and had the audience tackling their warmup exercises in part-singing and rounds, demonstrating just what pleasure is to be had from singing aloud in company.

To finish off, the Ukulele Group had us all tapping our feet and singing again to their tunes, from Rivers of Babylon through to The Glory of Love. Truly a splendid afternoon of entertainment and good spirits.

Thank you to everyone who took part.
